Morzine

a charming Savoyarde town

Morzine, a charming Savoyarde town, lies at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest ski areas in Europe. It is the connecting gateway to 650km of pistes, linking 12 resorts and two countries, providing direct access to some of the most extensive and varied skiing to be found anywhere in the world. Traditional and picturesque, it is a hub of activity for ski schools, shops and childcare.

The apartments are just five minutes walk from both of Morzine's major town centre lift systems. To the north, the Super Morzine gondola takes you to the extensive ski areas of Avoriaz, Chatel and Switzerland and the superb 1.5km boarders fun park, with half pipe and slalom stadium. To the south are the nursery slopes and the links to the extensive ski areas of Les Gets and La Ranfolly via the Pleney lifts.

There is also plenty to do apart from ripping up the slopes on boards or skis including indoor ice skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides, skidoo trips, snowshoe trails, floodlit skiing, parascending and even diving under the ice at Lake Montriond if you want to try that sort of adventure! All activities easily accessible from your apartment.

Beginners are well provided for by Morzine's own wide and gentle slopes, well served by snow cannon. With professional tuition available from plenty of English speaking ski schools nearby, beginners will soon have the confidence to venture up the mountain and take advantage of the long easy runs of Pleney, Le Ranfolly and Les Gets.

For intermediate skiers, you can cruise all week on an abundance of well groomed pistes, with long interlinked red and blue runs throughout the area. There is a "road train" in Morzine that connects the Super Morzine and the Pleney lift systems. Navette busses run to both the Prodains and Ardent lifts giving speedy access to Avoriaz system and on to the Swiss part of the Portes du Soleil region.

Experienced skiers have all the challenging black runs and more. A great day out is the Portes du Soleil circuit, visiting eight resorts in France and Switzerland. Aspiring World Cup downhillers can try the real thing at Hauts Forts and for the brave and the bold there is the exhilaration of "The Wall", a demanding "bumps" run into Switzerland.

Chamossiere is famous for its powder, and Crozats, Les Crosets, Mossiette Couloir and Morgins, amongst others, for their fantastic off-piste.

Without doubt, one of the best aspects of winter holidays in the mountains is the opportunity to take a relaxing break for a warming mug of hot chocolate or a "vin chaud" with friends and just watch the world go by. There are plenty of mountain cafes where you could quite happily stay all afternoon if the skiing becomes just a bit too much. Quiet areas or whole villages are there to be explored and enjoyed.

And at the end of your day .......

Morzine offers lively evening entertainment at a good selection of bars and nightclubs, or you can relax in one of the many excellent restaurants to re-live the day's adventures and plan tomorrow's.
